Over the past year, rumors have circulated about WB Games‘ next Batman title. They hit it out of the park with the Arkham games, which is clearly evident looking at the series’ sales figures.

Their formula is clearly working so why would they stop now? It doesn’t look like they plan to any time soon based on the official reveal of their next Batman project, which was just shown at the DC Fandome event.

Their next project is none other than Batman: Gotham Knights. Rather than putting Batman front and center, this upcoming action game will feature Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, and Red Hood.

If you’re familiar with the DC Universe and Batman comics in general, you know these characters are pivotal supporting members for the Caped Crusader. It’s nice to finally have conclusion to all of the rumors and see what WB Games has in store for fans.

They have put out teasers throughout the year with vague Twitter posts, keeping fans guessing as to what’s to come. Luckily, it doesn’t look like fans will have to wait too long to experience Gotham Knights as this superhero force. It will be available in 2021 on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

The game can be played solo or co-op, which makes sense considering there are four playable characters — at least for now. It’s taking the same sort of direction as the Suicide Squad game that was reported a couple of weeks ago, where players play as villains to stop Superman.

In the trailer, it seems like Bruce Wayne dies in an unfortunate explosion. That leaves these four heroes left to take up his own brand of vigilante justice. They’ll be up against the Court of Owls — Gotham’s wealthiest families that have been part of conspiracies surrounding Gotham City for centuries.

They may not be the most iconic villains like Joker or Scarecrow, but there is a lot of mystery behind them. Thus, the developer can peel back the curtain a bit and get deeper into Gotham City’s lore.

Gotham Knights looks like a great continuation of the Arkham games. Batman is one of the most beloved superheroes, but it makes sense that WB Games would give him a break and put him aside for now. In the meantime, Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, and Red Hood get to have their time in the sun.

Gameplay looks promising and so does the open-ended design of Gotham City. DC fans are in store for a real treat, it seems.
