Black Clover is a manga and anime series created by Yuki Tabata. The series launched in 2015 but quickly became popular worldwide. The story follows the protagonists Asta and Yuno, as they work to the top of the Order of the Magic Knights in the Kingdom of Clover.

Regarding the mobile game, Bandai Namco states: “Mobile game Black Clover Phantom knights. Form your own brigade with your favorite characters, and protect the kingdom in this Kingdom Defense RPG! Many familiar characters will join the battle, including the Clover Kingdom’s Magic Knights, the Diamond Kingdom, and even the Eye of the Midnight Sun!”

The Defense RPG game focuses on defending the kingdom and creating the strongest Magic Knights Brigade. The gameplay is all magic-based, where players can create combos by working together with the Arcane Arts. Players don’t have to do much as the gameplay is all automatic, but players hope that Bandai Namco will add in manual gameplay to strategize more.

While fans may be familiar with the story, the game features an original story. A new character, Jien, was also added to the game.

Players progress through various missions to progress through the unique storyline.

While the game has been out for almost two years in Japan, Bandai Namco continues to release updates and new events. Since the game is still new, there has only been one event so far. More events are likely throughout the year and beyond.

The game is free to play but does have some in-app purchases. The social media pages for the game display that there are summonable characters. Players may have to rely on random gameplay elements to recruit their favorite characters, which can end up being costly. The purchases all revolve around “BlackJewel” sets, with the cheapest being $0.99, while the most expensive is $79.99. While the game starts out free, players may feel tempted to pay for these sets to recruit better characters.

Black Clover: Phantom Knights is available now for free for iOS and Android.
