Recent developments, you ask? Atomic Arcade has unleashed a bit more for us to see about the upcoming AAA G.I. Joe title. And at center stage is none other than Snake Eyes, the silent, deadly ninja we all know and love. And let me just say… he looks *sharper* than you can imagine. Like, blood-on-the-blade, probably-gonna-get-an-M-rating sharp.

This, really, is a world-class staff arrayed with experts from Eidos, Epic, Bethesda, WB, and Marvel. Of course, this cast has set the expectations incredibly high. And from some angles, particularly what is given to us in these few glimpses of the in-game model, they simply don’t miss. Snake Eyes stands there, dressed in his ninja attire, and will transcend to high-budget action film level. Crisp detail. Very lethal vibes. Real hype.

The fan base seems all over the reply section. Some are clamoring for an origin story; and maybe a little sizzle on Snake Eyes’ Vietnam days and training days with Storm Shadow (because, let’s be honest: that rivalry is *ICONIC*), while for others, their excitement is just G.I. Joe finally being treated to a proper AAA game. Like, where has this been all our lives?

Then there are some people who just aren’t fans. Some glared at the idea of giving Snake Eyes focus—again. He’s the coolest and all, but there are *so* many other Joes deserving of that spotlight. Where’s a Duke game? Or a Lady Jaye adventure? That said, most would buy the game outright once it lands.

One cool feather: one dev (or someone who sure sounds like one) dropped the hint that art and game direction will be an “ain’t nobody gonna expect how much they’re gonna love this” level good. The pedigree of the team makes me believe this ain’t just hype.

The biggest question in this case: when? No release date yet, but after a tease like this, I’d comfortably suggest sooner rather than later. Maybe we’ll catch a full reveal at some game convo or The Game Awards? Fingers crossed.

And for the old-school bunch dreaming of neon lasers and batshit crazy snake-themed vehicles… nothing there yet, bumming out all the ninjas.

Anyway, the bottom line: This very well could be the G.I. Joe game we’ve been waiting for. Or at least the Snake Eyes game we didn’t even know we wanted. Either way, we are *very* interested.
