Ubisoft just threw a bit of an ambiguous riddle concerning Assassin’s Creed Shadows into the wild, and fans are crazy trying to unearth the hidden shinobi Naoe from Ubisoft’s very recent tweet. The post contains a lot of greenery and goes: “Only the keen eye of a shinobi can spot Naoe. Can you see where she’s hidden? 🤔 #AssassinsCreedShadow.”
Let us face it: Peak Ubisoft here is clearly trolling. They are fully aware of what they are doing: teasing us with that stealthy carrot set to tempt us all as if we were Ezio earning a new chase across the rooftops.
The image itself shows a pretty moody shadowy scene, set probably in some settings of feudal Japan; duh! That’s pretty much where Shadows is headed towards. I can see trees and rocks, maybe a temple distant in sight? But Naoe? Now that’s a million-yen question.
Some fans believe she’s blending into the greenery through ninja-chameleon powers. Others believe that either behind the rock or else she’s just dangling off the tree branch like some assassin spider. And now another group has just gone staring blankly at this on-screen like, “Bro, what, is this some sort of a joke? Just landscapes posted?”
Still, how nuts that there have been zero replies. AC fans usually will tear these babies down pixel by pixel like it was the Da Vinci Code. Or everyone is too busy zooming in and out to crack the code? Or maybe, just maybe, Ubisoft’s stealth is so on-point that even their fandom got ghosted.
What’s sick is how that teasing message completely captures the whole mood of Shadows. Naoe being the shine means she ought to blend in in plain sight for the most part, lore-wise. It’s almost like Ubisoft is saying, “Yup, it’s gonna be a game of patience, observation, and striking when the moment’s right.” Or it’s just toying with us. Either way, it’s hard to call.
What happens either way is that tweet is another slick move keeping our chatter alive, floating theories, and more importantly-hyped eyes on Shadows for news. Now excuse me for one more grueling hour of staring at said image. There is just no way she isn’t there…is she?
Ubisoft takes that round. The big question now is, when will they drop their next big reveal? Because as much as we love the hide-and-seek-screenshot teasing, we want to see some gameplay. Just saying.
Okay, everybody, stay on the watch now, shinobi. Naoe is out there…watching. Probably.
