Ubisoft posed a question to the Assassin’s Creed aficionados, and the players did not take long to share their opinions. The official Assassin’s Creed social media account wanted to know what players found to be the best thing about the Claws of Awaji DLC for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and people have been replying with powerfully supported views. The gamer community is letting their opinions be known very openly, with the range of comments going from brilliant boss fights to rather severe negative remarks.
What is the first thing that comes to mind? What is the Claws of Awaji issue? The latest addition to the Assassin’s Creed Shadows game is the Claws of Awaji DLC, that gives players a new island location. The original tweet call it new location, as “hits different.” However, not only the scenery but also the breathtaking boss fights are the main topics of conversation among the players’ discussions.
The name most frequently mentioned is Nawaki. Or Nowaki, depending on who is answering. This boss fight is referred to as “the most fun bossfight in the entire series” by GondlePergongle, who in all caps unequivocally pleaded “PLEASE MAKE MORE FIGHTS LIKE HER’S,” as when you have that strong a passion for a video game moment, typing in a normal way simply won’t do. Cpt Rusty dubbed it “hands down the best boss battle ever in recent history,” which… wow, that is really some high praise there.
But it is not just Nawaki that is getting the credit. Numerous gamers pointed to this stealth boss fight, which -Ant- characterized as “elite” and said “I need more of that in AC cause wow what a standout.” It is like when a game mechanic is so good that people are asking for more of it? That was the developer’s clue that they had done something right. Hamad alfailchawi just simply replied “The stealth boss fight,” as if it were not even a question what the best part was.
The environment is also being enjoyed. Gabe mentioned “awaji Beautiful island ❤️” and compared the atmosphere and traps to being spot on. Gameplay Videos discussed the new paintings and collectibles, and asked if there would be Halloween or Christmas content which… excuse me what was I saying? Oh yes, the island seems to be a visual hit even though some people have problems with other aspects, except that some others see it differently.
But this is the moment when it gets tricky – not everyone is thrilled about this DLC. Marin_LFC really went hard with “The fact that I have to pay for a DLC which tells the story that the base game (which I paid the full price for, of course) couldn’t give but ended it with a cliffhanger.” Ouch. That is some serious disappointment right there. At the end, the person even wrote “cheers for that,” which is probably the British way of saying “I’m mad but I’m gonna be nice about it.”
Another user Risen_Faith is experiencing technical issues: “The best part is I paid 25 dollars and the game crashes on a story mission so I can’t even finish the fckng dlc.” There is nothing worse than having the content you purchased being unplayable because of bugs. Bluekovic thought the story and sidequests were too short, and that’s why he said “I have it for free, but pay for it, nope.”
The price argument got quite heated with JessieLameque boasting that she got it for free and quite a few people discussing whether it was a smart buying decision or not. Tom was curious to know “For those who play it.. is it good? I am thinking of buying it after I beat the main game” and he got mixed answers from “It’s alright. I’d wait for a sale” to Patrick replying in Portuguese that he found it pretty mediocre.
AuraWolf92 had a very interesting critique regarding the story itself, saying the whole mystery of the boxes was “COMPLETELY POINTLESS” and questioning why the Assassins were guarding them – “To respect culture?” Meanwhile, some players have already finished the content, like Yackmug who completed it and is back on the mainland working towards 100 percent completion with 88 hours of total playtime.
The demand for more content is real though. SoyDemente wants more horses, outfits, and hairstyles while remyratio is just pleading “Please do more stealth battles 🙏” with the prayer hands emoji and everything. TheRafCave is hanging around until more weapon execution finishers are added before venturing in.
It is clear that Claws of Awaji has created a stir – both for the good and the bad. The boss fights seem to be the only aspect that everybody is in agreement about and are universally called the best in the history of recent Assassin’s Creed, while story length and pricing have attracted some criticism. But when gamers are claiming fights to be “peak” and “the best in the series”? That is the kind of feedback game developers dream about. Whether you are loving it or waiting for a sale, the chatter around this DLC is proof that Assassin’s Creed Shadows still has the community engaged months after its release on PlayStation and Xbox.
