Respawn Entertainment dropped a bombshell for all Apex Legends fans; the noble power-wielding Outland defender Wattson’s fine prestige skin has gained all sorts of loud, somewhat contentious reactions. The official Apex Legends account took to Twitter with a somewhat bloated tease of the grand reveal, showcasing the like-impossibly majestic Wattson. Some players are absolutely at the top of the world about the skin design; others, let’s say, are simply not feeling the shock.
It really does draw you in! Wattson’s new look goes into overdrive with a hyper-feminine theme. Frills, sparkles: practically princess-level flamboyance. Some players, Skillzay_ being one of them, praised it as “one of the best mythic skins in the game,” and terrestrial others, including JOH4NN4DL showered it with an emoji-ridden hype. But then others are outrightly opposing it, mahonyczcz recalling a loud laugh: “the worst prestige ever”; “hurts my teeth just looking at it.” Ouch.
Wattson players, of course, still wait for a little loving. Raptorz413 said, despite the recent buff, Wattson is still not winning the race against the likes of Ash and Ballistic. “If I run into another Ballistic with a Devo moving Mach 5 with ult, I’m gonna lose it,” Raptorz413 expressed in bitterness. Another one, PaytonGGs, called out how passive and ult just don’t work in Mixtape mode. So how exactly do you play her in Mixtape mode if half her kit is broken?
Then, of course, we have some outside-the-box takes since no Apex Legends update is really complete without an assortment of wrong takes. Evan Ross McGrath went all the way on the tangent about “Marxists using femininity as a weapon against the male gender,” which, um, sure, dude. Meanwhile, x.oni.v just wants Respawn to give Lifeline a skin without baggy pants for once. Priorities, right?
There are usual complaints as well—cheaters; thanks for that rant about Cronus Zen users, pascual_to5318!; missing Twitch rewards (JotaeMe64: “My kitten charm? Gone.”); and the eternal plight of Fuse mains looking for a prestige skin (TheOG_FuseMain23, we’re watching).
So, is the new skin a triumph or a disaster? Whether they love it or hate it, it’s clear that Wattson’s new skin is on everyone’s lips. On top of it, a couple of players like Kristie are ready to throw down another 20 bucks for it, and then you have those who just give it the side-eye. But good news for the Nessies-let’s get this straight: If anyone dares to nerf her, the “evil Nessies will haunt” ya. Consider yourself warned.
But really, when you dig in a little bit deeper, there’s something for everybody-fashion or function, Apex knows how to keep a conversation going. If only they could address those Mixtape bugs in some way.
