Respawn Entertainment seems to have given the Apex Legends creators another, more glittering opportunity to grab. How, one wonders, did the community take that? Well, let’s just say the answer is kind of dirty. The official Apex Legends Twitter account tweeted announcing that applications are open to join the Creator Hub, a program where selected creators will receive early access to news, Q&As with the developers, and exclusive content previews. Streamers and YouTubers, this just sounds like an amazing opportunity, right? But, the reply section tells a whole different story. There is almost a wall of different reactions-all the way from applause to utter disappointment.

That’s the good part: creating hubs are great basically for Apex content creators to get closer to the game. Accepted members get patched chemicals in their blood early with whatever is about to be patched, communicate directly with devs, and maybe collaborate. Creators like StellaJasTTV have already expressed their excitement with a tweet saying, “Applied ♥️,” in hopes of being accepted into the program. Then JohnnyPriceTTV added humor to the conversation: “Tons of goats applying 👀”. Maya BB is reapplying because she hopes to make it in before the Wattson prestige skin drop. There is real excitement for those who see this as a potential career opportunity.

But, there is a but. Not everybody is excited. A handful of the replies are not focusing on the Creator Hub per se, but rather they reflect on all the things that are wrong with Apex Legends. Cheaters? Yep, those would be one. SimplyBetterThanYou said “We want you to ban the fucking cheaters first before anything.” Oof! Then there’s the server issues. Khokhas_ told Respawn, “How do you expect African players to participate when playing at 250-350 ping? Give us servers!” Fair enough. If they can barely play in those regions, how are their creators supposed to thrive?

Naturally, there are others more on the skeptical side. Chad, going by chadli_was_here, flat-out stated that they would not apply, because they had accused Respawn of neglecting partnered creators in the past. “Especially with the skin scandal and lying to creators,” they tweeted. Ouch. Others, like CobraaBitee, seemed genuinely surprised Apex was still a thing, replying, “Oh this game still exists? Dang.” Harsh comment, but well, that’s the spirit of Twitter.

Then, there is the language barrier to contend with. Certain Japanese gamers are discontent, with one user, “水色,” complaining about EA Japan in regard to unfinished bugs. One of the tweets says that the first purchase bonus for Apex Coins had issues with an improper announcement to the player base, which in turn made them feel cheated. Translation? The ire toward Respawn transcends even the English-speaking world.

Nevertheless, there is still hope. IntrepidusOne, from within the Creator Hub, gave encouragement to smaller creators to keep coming, saying, “Just apply… don’t give up on yourself.” AjayRae_ gave their shoutout to the grinders, tweeting, “So many of y’all deserve this. Like y’all actually play the game and make content.”

So what are we to take away from this? Certainly, the Apex Legends Creator Hub is HUGE for creators; however, Respawn has fires to put out first. Cheaters, server issues, and the blocking of communication lines remain major issues being raised by the community. Fix them and then maybe all parties will be celebrating such an opportunity instead. In the meantime, though, the reply section will stay the battleground for hype, salt, and everything between.
