The Lunar New Year event is once again returning to Pokemon Go, and it will be spotlighting various red Pokemon in celebration of the new year. It is the Year of the Rat, and a Limited Research event has arrived featuring Minccino, the Chinchilla Pokemon.
These events are continuously loved by fans, and with the color-coded styling, Pokemon trainers are in for exciting opportunities. All red Pokemon will begin to appear more frequently in the wild for an exclusive opportunity to catch some rare monsters. There will also be the appearance of a Pokemon not previously found in Pokemon Go: Darumaka.
The event will begin Friday, January 24, at 1:00 P.M. PST and will continue until Monday, February 3, at 1:00 P.M. PST. That is over a week worth of time to go out and catch all the extra Pokemon making an appearance during the event. So get ready to find some new red friends and maybe catch the coveted red Shiny Gyrados.
The red Pokemon that will be featured are Charmeleon, Vulpix, Parasect, Voltorb, Jynx, Magmar, Magikarp, Flareon, Slugma, Wurmple, Corphish, Kricketot, and Foongus. Darumaka will hatch from 7 km eggs as well as Shuckle and Foongus. This will be Darumaka’s first appearance in Pokemon Go, so go out and try to catch that Zen Charm Pokemon.
Player gifts will have a bonus chance to reward players with Rare Candies, so make sure to send out all your gifts for an extra opportunity. If you trade more with your friends, you will have an increased likelihood of becoming Lucky Friends. There is an additional incentive for trading, Pokemon, that you trade have an increased chance of becoming a Lucky Pokemon.
The star of the show is the Chinchilla Pokemon, Minccino. There will be a special Limited Research event available from Professor Willow. The esteemed Professor has uncovered that Minccino can evolve into Cinccino through the use of an Unova Stone.
The research event will be taking place on Sunday, February 2, from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. local time. The research tasks will allow you to encounter Minccino. During this time, more Pokemon that fit the theme of Year of the Rat will have an increased appearance rate. So be on the lookout for Rattata, Raticate, Pikachu, Sandshrew, Nidoran♀, Nidoran♂, Sentret, Marill, Zigzagoon, Plusle, Minun, Bidoof, and Patrat. If you are lucky, you might even catch a Shiny Minccino.
