XSEED Games has announced additional information regarding the Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town release. The game is a Nintendo Switch exclusive and is a remake of one of the most popular entries in the series.
The game was previously released in Japan in October 2019 but is now coming to North America, Europe, and Australia later this Summer. Along with the announcement was a new trailer showcasing some of the gameplay, characters, and events.
“Summoned by Mayor Thomas to visit the farm once owned by their late grandfather, a young city-slicker returns to Mineral Town to find the once lush farmland has fallen into disrepair. Memories of idyllic summers spent in Mineral Town come rushing back and they immediately pick up their tools, vowing to restore the fields to their former glory. In their new hometown, they’ll tend the land and become part of the bustling rural community. Along the way to becoming a world class farmer, they’ll befriend townsfolk and, perhaps, even find romance.” states the official game summary.
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is a complete remake of Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town that was released on the Game Boy Advance released in North America in November 2003. While the game was split into two versions for each gender, it will now include both farmers.
The remake has new events, new romanceable characters, plus updated gameplay, graphics, and characters for a modern-day release.
XSEED has announced the North American preorder bonus through the publisher for the game is a pink and white “Strawberry Cow” plush.
The history behind the name change can be confusing. In North America, Story of Seasons was known as Harvest Moon when it was published by Natsume. In 2012, Marvelous stopped licensing the title to Natsume so that its North American brand Xseed Games could localize it instead. However, Natsume kept the copyright of the original game to develop its own series of casual farming simulation games. Currently, Story of Seasons is a continuation of the Bokujo Monogatari series, while Natsume’s Harvest Moon is now a different series.
Preorders for the game are not yet available in North America but are up for Europe and Australia.
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is scheduled to be released in North America this Summer as a Nintendo Switch Exclusive. The European and the Australian release date is was previously announced for July 10.
