The Wolfenstein games have always been a joy to play over the years. Their WW2 settings are iconic, but even more noteworthy are the enemies. You’re constantly trying to take down the Nazis, who always seem to have close ties to evil, supernatural forces.
To date, there have been an incredible 10 titles. We don’t often see this type of longevity with a series. It doesn’t seem like this franchise will be stopping any time soon either. The newest of the series, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, will officially launch in July.
It’s being developed by MachineGames, who have some interesting things in mind for this first-person shooter. According to recent reports, they plan on making this game completely free to share and play with friends. This is incredible news if you’re a fan of co-op modes.
How will this exactly work, though? Bethesda Softworks — the game’s publisher — broke it down. First, someone has to buy Wolfenstein: Youngblood’s Deluxe Edition. Then, they have to share the game’s Buddy Pas with a selected friend. Both can then engage in co-op as long as they’re on at the same time.
This strategy is genius on the part of Bethesda. Not everyone can afford a new AAA game out of the gate. By enabling people to share their bought version with a friend, they’ll essentially letting more gamers enjoy this upcoming first-person shooter. More gaming companies could certainly take this route and build a positive reputation with their target audience.
There won’t be any restrictions either for the player who doesn’t own the actual deluxe copy. They’ll have access to all of the missions, weapons, and features. It also appears the person who owns the deluxe copy can share the Buddy Pas with as many friends as they want. However, only one friend at a time can play.
This new feature makes Wolfenstein: Youngblood a must-own title out of the gate. It will be available for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and the Nintendo Switch. As far as the story, it takes place 19 years after BJ Blazkowicz ignited the second American Revolution. You get to play as one of BJ’s twin daughters, Jess or Soph.
As mentioned earlier, there’s a co-op mode. However, you can play solo as well and experience the thrilling events that this game has to offer. It’s not even out yet and already, many people are getting hyped about this latest feature announcement. Kudos to Bethesda Softworks.
