Terraria 1.4 “Journey’s End” is not available on consoles yet. The process of bringing the 1.4 update to Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch is now under development by DR Studios. This is the same team that recently pushed the update for mobile and have now changed focus to the console version.
Despite the release of Journey’s End in May 2020 for PC and October 2020 for mobile, console players are still waiting to find out when they will finally be able to play the huge 1.4 update. Here’s everything we know so far about when the console version might arrive.
The October “State of the Game” announcement from Re-Logic covered many upcoming changes and keeps track of everything new in the world of Terraria. Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation played a big part in October’s blog post.
This is apparently “the most console-focused period yet” for the Re-Logic team. Some snapshots and footage have already been shown off of Terarria running on an Xbox One, which is exciting news for fans who are waiting for the update to come out. There’s good news – the update looks good on consoles so far.
An Alpha Version of Terraria 1.4 Journey’s End Is Coming To Consoles…Soon!
In November, Re-Logic posted that the studio is hoping to push out an Alpha version of Terraria 1.4 to console as a “Holiday gift” at the end of 2020. That means console players might be able to test out the Journey’s End update very soon. This is still very much in the works, so stay patient for more news.
Which platform will get the update first? It’s not clear, although there will likely be an update for PlayStation and Xbox at the same time. Nintendo Switch might come later, although the studio is pushing to have 1.4 on all consoles at the same time.
Although this is overall great news for Terraria players on console, there is still no exact release date for Journey’s End on consoles. Porting the many thousands of new items from 1.4 from PC to consoles – and making sure the game still runs smoothly – is a huge task.
However, I believe the game is now in good hands with DR Studios. They were the team that managed to accelerate progress on the mobile version of 1.4 by jumping several updates all at the same time. Hopefully, this means the console version of Terraria is coming sooner, rather than later.
If you can’t quite remember what’s in the Journey’s End update – it has been a while since console players first heard about the update – expect plenty of new items, monsters, and decorations, as well as potentially some console-exclusive items.
