Watch Dogs: Legion is an upcoming action-adventure game being developed by Ubisoft Toronto. It has garnered a lot of attention this year and is certainly on every gamer’s watch list for 2020. Originally, it was scheduled to release in March of next year. Unfortunately, that deadline just isn’t feasible for the development team.
That’s according to Ubisoft from an investor call, in which they described in detail the reason for this pushback. It’s not happening with just Watch Dogs: Legion, too. It’s taking place with Gods and Monsters and Rainbow Six Quarantine. Speaking on the matter recently was Yves Guillemot — the CEO of Ubisoft. He went on record saying that some of their games have been received poorly.
Such was the case with Ghost Recon Breakpoint. It was hyped beyond belief, but unfortunately, it was met with a lot of mixed reviews. A reason for this, according to Guillemot, is because their games have been released too close together. Also, some of its major features were pushed before they were really ready to come out.
It appears like Ubisoft is hoping to circumvent a lot of these issues with Watch Dogs: Legion, which won’t be coming out until the second half of 2020. Sure, on paper, this is not what you want to hear. This is particularly true if you’ve been a fan of this fun series ever since the beginning. Still, a delay certainly isn’t the end of the world when developers put extra time into perfecting such an important AAA game that people actually care about.
This hurdle could actually be a blessing in disguise for the developer and fans as well. It could mean the best Watch Dogs to date, which is incredible to even contemplate. They’re taking this series in a bold direction with the amount of NPCs you’ll be able to control. The character options seem limitless and because of this scale, it makes sense that the developers would need a little more time ironing out all of the details.
What is a couple of months in exchange for a smooth gameplay experience and an amazing story? Watch Dogs: Legion could be one of the best games in 2020. It’s only right that the developers would put their best foot forward and deliver everything they’ve promised since the beginning.
In the meantime, fans can always re-visit the first two Watch Dogs. They’re great games in their own right, and it may be time to freshen up on the way they play before hitting this third installment with full force.
