Last week, Netflix launched its new fantasy series, The Witcher, which is based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s book series, and the reviews, for the most part, have been positive.

One of the show’s strongest points is Henry Cavill’s performance as Geralt of Rivia, who is the lead protagonist in CD Projekt Red’s video game series and is one of the three main characters in the Netflix show. Naturally, most are wondering what the creator of the world, the aforementioned author of the book series, thinks about the show and how its characters have been portrayed.

“I was more than happy with Henry Cavill’s appearance as The Witcher,” Sapkowski told People. “He’s a real professional. Just as Viggo Mortensen gave his face to Aragorn [in The Lord of the Rings], so Henry gave his to Geralt — and it shall be forever so.”

When Netflix revealed that Cavill was set to play the part of Geralt of Rivia, the announcement was met with a fair bit of criticism. But, if you’ve seen the show, then you know that he was the perfect actor for the role.

Alternatively, fans of the books and game series wanted to see someone like Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who played the part of Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones, to play Geralt of Rivia. Of course, the GOT actor probably would’ve been a great choice, but Cavill has proven to be a great fit for the show.

In the weeks leading up to the show’s release, Cavill talked about his love for the video game series, which eventually led him to the book series. Also, he said that once he heard Netflix was doing a show based on The Witcher, he had his agent reach out to the streaming service about him playing the role of Geralt. So, judging from what he’s told the press in the weeks leading up to its debut, it looks like this is a role that he’s quite invested in.

Before the release of season one last week, Netflix announced that the show is already getting a second season. As of right now, we don’t know when the second season of The Witcher will be released, but it’s realistic to expect to see it become available next December.
