To promote their Galaxy 2.0 games platform, GOG is offering free copies of The Witcher 3 if you already own the game on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 or EGS.
This offer lasts until June 23rd, and if you already own a copy of The Witcher 3 on GOG you can get a giftable link to send the game to a friend who has never played before.
Make sure to link your Xbox or PlayStation account with the GOG platform. It should work that if you own the GOTY edition of Witcher then you should also get the GOTY edition on GOG.
Some users are experiences issues linking their Xbox and PlayStation accounts with GOG. The easiest way to resolve this problem is to update the GOG Galaxy 2.0 platform and you should receive a code.
To claim the game through Steam, head to the Galaxy platform and enter the Steam integration section. Left-click on The Witcher 3 and click the Activity button. This should send a code through for you to redeem the game through GOG.
If you own the GOTY edition you should get the full edition on GOG. However, if you own the base game plus the various expansion packs you will only receive the base game on GOG. It’s not clear whether this is intended or something that will be updated.
There is currently no cross-save features between console and PC editions so if you transfer the game onto GOG you will have to start afresh.
Nintendo Switch owners will also not be able to benefit from this exclusive giveaway as there is currently no Switch integration on the Galaxy 2.0 platform.
What is the Galaxy 2.0 platform? This is GOG’s version of the ever-popular game launchers that have dominated the PC market for the past couple of years. It’s a small download of a game platform where you can link all your separate launchers in one place.
This means you can run Origin and Steam games from Galaxy 2.0, essentially streamlining your games all into one place. It’s around a 500mb download but it does run much faster than alternative launchers.
