The only way to navigate this game is by taking a different perspective. It is kinda like when you pretend to pinch and pick the sun out of the sky or flick a friend that is standing at a distance. This entire concept has been encapsulated in this puzzle game.

The game was originally called the “Museum of Simulation Technology” during its prototype phase. After tons of work, the game creates a surreal, dream-like experience, which is exactly what their fans are looking for.

One of the really exciting mechanics in the game is something the developers are calling “tompe-l’oeil.” In English, this is the term for chalk drawings that look 3D when looking at them head-on. From the correct angle, some objects are 2D, and when you move, they become 3D and able to be interacted with.

The game prides itself on being a surreal story with as many hidden layers as there are hidden objects. It is like a dream within a dream wrapped in a therapy session and sprinkled with magic. Only the most creative are going to be able to

“As you fall asleep with the TV on at 3 AM, you remember catching a glimpse of the commercial from Dr.Pierce’s Somnasculpt dream therapy program. By the time you open your eyes, you’re already dreaming – beginning the first stages of this experimental program. Welcome to Superliminal,” reads the game description.

If anything, this game teaches a valuable lesson on falling asleep with the TV on. The screenshots really do a ton to provoke the mind and make it wonder as you wander down the halls of what seems to be an office building. With floating chess pieces and weirdly flat rooms, the game does a great job making you think your way through unexpected challenges.

Superliminal is available right now on the Epic Game Store. It will be making its way to PlayStation 4 in April of 2020. Pillow Castle, the developers, are a small indie studio, but they seem to have a ton of potential. For any puzzle lover, this could be a new favorite in the never-ending stream of challenges and adventures of the puzzle genre.
