Last week, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate released an update entitled 6.0. It was a massive expansion for the game, releasing simultaneously in all regions.
Chief among the updates was a brand new DLC character, Fatal Fury’s Terry Bogard. There were also a number of balance changes and new spirits being added to the game’s ever-growing list.
Now, Nintendo has announced that it will be releasing a second update, entitled 6.1.0. Unfortunately, they haven’t given any indication as to what this update will entail. As it still falls under the 6.0 umbrella, it’s unlikely that this will be anything more than some additional patches to compliment what was recently released.
Many surmise that this new update will include some balance changes. That’s because Nintendo has advised players to save all of their replays as video files, as they will not be compatible with the new version once this update takes hold.
Update 6.0 came with character changes for Donkey Kong, King K. Rool, Kirby, Incineroar, Jiggly Puff, Robin, and Hero.
Some of the new spirits that appear in both the Shop and Vault menu include Andy Bogard, Tockles, Joe Higashi, Ralf & Clark, Kim Kaphwan, Athena Asamiya, Geese Howard, Nakoruru, Ryo Sakazaki, Haohmaru, Kyo Kusanagi, and Iori Yagami.
Additionally, the Tockles spirit now appears on the Dragon Quest Spirit Board, which can be accessed from the DLC Spirits Menu.
Battle Arena Mode was also updated, adding an all-new type of arena called “Elite Only.”
Any arenas created by your friends can be accessed regardless of visibility filters by going to the Join Arena section and choosing Friends’ Arenas.
Host players can now change certain rules without shutting down an arena. Players can also send set messages to one another while inside an arena and select Random Battlefield or Omega Form from the stage settings.
On top of all of this, there have been game balance adjustments as well as general bug fixes throughout the game.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate recently became the highest-selling fighting game of all time. Additionally, the Super Smash Bros. franchise, which turned 20 this year, is the highest-selling fighting game franchise of all time, beating out heavy-hitters like Tekken, Street Fighter, and Mortal Kombat by several million copies.
The game features a roster of 74 characters, which comprise fan-favorite Nintendo classics like Mario, Link, Donkey Kong, Kirby, and more, as well as third-party characters like Sonic The Hedgehog, Solid Snake, Cloud Strife, and Mega Man.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available on the Nintendo Switch console.
