There’s a lot of hype surrounding these games, with Gigantamax Pokemon making their debut in the franchise. With all the excitement around these releases, it stands to reason that Nintendo is trying to make it a full-on event.

Nintendo is extending the Pokemon craze to one of its most popular games, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which is the highest-selling fighting game of all time.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate boasts the largest roster in Super Smash Bros. history, with up to 74 playable fighters to choose from. A lot of these are Nintendo staples like Mario, Kirby, Link, and Fox McCloud. There are also a number of third-party characters like Sonic The Hedgehog, Solid Snake, Cloud Strife, and Mega Man.

But Super Smash Bros. has always featured a number of Pokemon available throughout the game. There are Pokemon fighters, Pokemon Assist Trophies, and Pokemon stages to choose from.

On Friday, the release date for Pokemon Sword and Shield, we’re going to see Nintendo host a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Pokemon Tournament!

This event will allow players to battle one another using only Pokemon fighters and stages. It’s a fun way for Nintendo aficionados to fully immerse themselves in the universe of Pokemon while celebrating these new releases.

The history of Pokemon in the Super Smash Bros. franchise dates back to the original Super Smash Bros, which was released on the Nintendo 64 system in January of 1999. Pikachu, the most well-known Pokemon in the world, is one of the original playable fighters. After making their way through the original game’s story mode, players were able to unlock Jiggly Puff, who had similar gameplay mechanics to Kirby.

From there, the number of available Pokemon continued to grow. Gamers the world over were delighted at the addition of the Pokemon Trainer to Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The Pokemon trainer gave players the ability to take control of fan-favorite Pokemon Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard, mirroring the three choices that players can make for their initial Pokemon in the original Game Boy adventure which spawned the whole franchise.

Smash Bros. Players have also been able to take control of characters like Mewtwo, Lucario, Incineroar, Greninja, and Pichu. A female version of the Pokemon trainer has also been released as a playable character.
