Only a couple of more days left in September. If you’re an Xbox Live Gold member, you’re stoked because that means it’s almost time for a new bunch of freebies. As is customary, the new games for October will be spread throughout the month.

One of the first offerings — which will be available until the 15th — is Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy. It’s an oldie, but definitely a great pickup if you like third-person action-adventure games. Even still in 2020, it’s a great game with a lot of heart.

Players get to travel the world using magical portals in hopes of putting a stop to Set’s evil plans. As Sphinx, you won’t have to go at the baddies alone thanks to your trusty companion, The Mummy. You’ll get to interchange between the two depending on the situation at hand.

For example, if you run up on an enemy and combat is needed, Sphinx is your guy. He has a growing number of skills that you’ll soon discover throughout the game’s story, which was inspired by ancient Egypt.

If, however, you’re looking to solve puzzles or sneak past enemies in a unique way, then The Mummy is the character to use in these special circumstances. The main goal for Sphinx and The Mummy is to track down magical crowns of ancient Egypt.

If you don’t and Set gets to them first, that could throw off reality as you know it. That’s something you can’t afford and you’ll go to extraordinary lengths to be the savior that the world needs.

Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy debuted all the way back in 2003 and was developed by Eurocom. Despite it being so old, the graphics and gameplay actually hold up pretty well.

The worlds that you’ll get to explore are well detailed and vibrant, even for today’s standards. The fact that it has aged so well makes it an incredible addition to your collection, especially if you like going back and playing all-time classics.

And if you haven’t had the chance to enjoy this hidden gem, get ready. You’ll have a fun time learning about this game’s lore, world, and interesting characters. There are so many NPCs you’ll interact with as well as menacing villains you’ll have to vanquish before going up against the evil Set.
