Earlier this month, an analyst from DFC Intelligence predicted that, due to the Coronavirus, both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will get delayed, as both consoles are currently scheduled to be released during the holiday season later this year. Moreover, several predicted that some of PlayStation’s upcoming exclusives like The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima, both of which are scheduled to be released within the next few months, will get delayed until later in the year.
However, Sony shared an update on the development of the aforementioned PlayStation 4 exclusives, saying that no issues have emerged so far and that they’re carefully monitoring the risk of delays.
“Although no issues have emerged so far, Sony is carefully monitoring the risk of delays in production schedules for game software titles at both its first-party studios and partner studios, primarily in Europe and the United States.”
Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II, which is probably the most anticipated game of the year, is currently scheduled to be released at the end of May. Of course, it was originally supposed to be released back in February, but the developers felt like they needed more time to polish the upcoming sequel to 2013’s The Last of Us. Fans of the series will probably be disappointed if the game gets delayed again, but due to the current circumstances, most people will understand.
Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima is scheduled to be released for the PlayStation 4 in June. Unlike with the aforementioned The Last of Us Part II, Sucker Punch’s upcoming title hasn’t gotten delayed since its release date was announced.
As of right now, things look good for both games, but don’t be surprised if both end up getting delayed until later in the year. If they do, that could be a sign that the PlayStation 5, which, as previously noted, is scheduled to be released in either November or December, has been pushed back until the first quarter of 2021.
Depending on your source, our current situation could last until the fall, or it could end sometime in June or July. So, the game, if they’re delayed, might be pushed back until the early-fall or early-winter months.
We should get news on if these games are going to get delayed in the coming weeks and months, but for now, according to Sony, the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusives are right on schedule.
