SEGA has announced a brand new project to kick off Sonic the Hedgehog’s upcoming 30th anniversary.
Along with the new projects was the unveiling of a new website that included digital free content for fans.
The Sonic 2020 project was created to celebrate all things related to Sonic the Hedgehog throughout the year. Every month on the 20th, new information and plans for the blue hedgehog will be released.
The project begins with a new website on the Sonic Channel official website. The website will offer various digital content inspired by the key art of Sonic 2020. This includes wallpapers for desktop and mobile and 21 Twitter avatars that are available now for download and use on social media.
Sonic 2020 is also reaching out to fans. Fans can apply to join the Sonic Channel and submit fanart or answer quiz questions throughout the year. Participants can win exclusive Sonic-themed prices.
The event was launched before 2021, which will mark the 30th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog.
While SEGA has announced a new project to celebrate the Sonic the Hedgehog, the live-action film adaptation will be released on Valentine’s Day, February 14.
The official movie summary states: “Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, Sonic the Hedgehog tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.”
The film had a rough start, but the movie team reworked Sonic the Hedgehog’s design due to fan feedback. After new trailers showcasing environments from the game, plus Baby Sonic, fans have been much more receptive to its upcoming release.
2020 is looking to be the year of Sonic right up to his 30th anniversary new year. Hopefully, fans will see the release of a new game or other new projects this year or next year.
There are still 11 more announcements featuring new information coming this year. All new information will occur on the 20th of each month in the Japan Standard Time zone.
