Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) recently announced even more big news in a press release on their official website.

SIE has announced a significant milestone occurred in December 2019. After the holiday sales period was up, The PlayStation Network reached over 103 million active users during the month worldwide.

While many companies count both inactive and active users, this is a huge milestone for Sony. Over 100 million players can play together across the globe.

SIE also shared more news. By the end of December 2019, the PlayStation 4 has sold more than 106 million consoles globally. That number matches around the same number of users who are active on the PSN. Players who own a PlayStation 4 are more likely subscribing to the PSN rather than playing their consoles offline.

The company also shared game data. The cumulative sales of PlayStation 4 titles both physically and through the PC Store have reached 1.15 billion by the end of December.

“I am very pleased to see that so many PlayStation fans value the unparalleled entertainment experience on PS4,” said Jim Ryan, President and CEO of SIE. “This has been made possible by the support we have from our partners and fans since launching PlayStation in 1994, and I would like to truly thank everyone. We’ve consistently delivered innovative products like PlayStation VR, which has reached its 5 million unit sales milestone. There is much more entertainment experience to look forward to that the PlayStation ecosystem will provide that we can’t wait to share with our fans.”

Although the PlayStation 5’s launch is coming soon, players are still enjoying the PlayStation 4 and everything it has to offer, either through multiplayer or single-player titles.

Besides the release of a new console, many upcoming titles are highly anticipated on the PlayStation 4, including The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima. The PS4 may be almost seven years old, but developers for AAA or indie titles continue to release exciting new titles on the system with the PS5 on the horizon.
