Deadly Premonition Origins is a re-release of the PlayStation 3 Director’s Cut version of Deadly Premonition, a survival horror game that was released on the Xbox 360 way back in 2010. The game follows FBI Special Agent Francis York Morgan as he heads to the small town of Greenvale, Washington to investigate a mysterious murder of an eighteen-year-old woman. The murder bears some similarity to other killings that have been happening across the United States, and Morgan believes they are all tied to the Raincoat Killer. The story, setting, and overall atmosphere of the game are heavily inspired by the television show Twin Peaks.

Upon release, the game was received with incredibly mixed reviews. Some publications gave the game super low scores, with websites like IGN rating the game as low as a 2 out of 10. Other sites, like Destructoid, gave the game a perfect score, with many labeling the game as the perfect example of “video games as art.” In fact, the reception to the game was so polarizing that it actually holds a Guinness World Record for the “most critically polarizing survival-horror game” of all-time.

A Director’s cut version was release for the PlayStation 3 in 2013, which fixed some of the major issues with the gameplay. This version is considered the definitive experience, but once again was critically and commercially divisive. Over the years, the game has become almost legendary and grown into a cult hit. Fans have been so supportive of the project that an official sequel is finally on its way, titled Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise.
