Red Dead Redemption 2 is a perfect game to get lost in during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. It’s detailed, it’s immersive, it has a plethora of side quests that one can get lost in, and it is very long.
Some photographers have found some much-needed relief in this Rockstar smash hit game. They’re actually using Red Dead Redemption 2 to take photos during the quarantine.
A professional Photographer named Craig Whitehead, who goes by the name “Sixstreetunder” loves taking artistic photos, but can’t currently do that while in quarantine. So, he has taken to taking pictures around Saint Denis in Red Dead Redemption 2 as a way to stay sane.

“As a way to stay sane while stuck indoors, I’ve joined in with a few who are using Red Dead Redemption 2 and Saint Denis as their surrogate city for the next few weeks. I’ve only had about an hour in the city (skipped a lot of the actual game and just rode there) but it’s pretty tricky chasing light that moves at the in game pace.”
Because of the shorter “day” in the game, the light tends to move a lot faster, casting shadows in different ways.
Some of the pictures Whitehead and other photographers have been taking are nothing short of breathtaking and look like they belong in some kind of professional gallery.
Nico Froelich, another professional photographer who goes by the Instagram handle “Nicofroe,” has also been sharing photos of his in game photography, dubbing it “virtual street photography.”

“It’s really encouraging to see a lot of photographers giving this a go whilst in self isolation,” he wrote. “The most important thing right now is to stay at home.”
It’s not just Red Dead Redemption getting the Virtual Street Photography treatment. A lot of photographers are testing out shots in Grand Theft Auto V, Uncharted, and The Last of Us.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel to the original Red Dead Redemption. Whereas, in the original, you played as former outlaw John Marston, in this game you play as one of Marston’s cohorts in the Duch Van Der Linde gang, Arthur Morgan. Marston is in the game and the player gets a chance to take control of him once again at the end for a while, but this game belongs to Arthur.
Red Dead Redemption 2 earned a ton of acclaim from gamers all over the world for its deep story, fantastic voice acting, and breathtaking scenery. It is a game that is easy to get lost in, and that’s what’s needed right now more than anything.
