As the third member of the Assassin trio, Skarlet’s Assassin character card joins Assassin Kitana and Assassin Jade as an Assassin of Outworld. And as the second version of Skarlet in the game, she brings in a new playstyle for Skarlet players.
Skarlet began her career as a DLC character in Mortal Kombat 9, though she was a rumor dating back to Mortal Kombat 2. Much like Ermac’s color scheme, Skarlet’s was caused by a coding error that caused Kitana’s outfit to turn red.
But Skarlet didn’t actually become a character until the Netherrealm timeline. In Mortal Kombat 9, she was a flesh pit creation of Shang Tsung for Shao Kahn, a creature who relied on blood for her attacks and as a massive part of her fatalities. From this appearance, she headed into the Mortal Kombat X comics where she alongside Mileena during the war between Mileena and Kotal Kahn. Near the end of the war, however, Skarlet fought Mileena, who destroyed Skarlet’s legs with a Brutality. Skarlet claimed that, due to her Blood Magik, this wouldn’t kill her, but Mileena said she knew, and that she’d keep Skarlet alive to torture her.
In Mortal Kombat 11, however, her origin was changed slightly. Instead of being a flesh pit creation like Mileena, Skarlet was retconned into a poor girl who was recruited by Shao Kahn and taught Blood Magik. And it is this version of Skarlet that Assassin Skarlet is based on. She carries both her Mortal Kombat 11 move set and her Mortal Kombat 11 appearance.
At the start of every match, Assassin Skarlet applies a bleed effect to all opponents for 15 seconds. When she is the active fighter, she steals 1.66% of a bleeding opponent’s Power every second, so she slows the ability to use special moves for her opponents. Also, Assassin Skarlet makes it so all Assassin characters have a 30% higher Lethal Blow change against opponents who have less than 50% health, and they do 10% more damage against Circle of Shadow aligned opponents.
Assassin Skarlet is an Outworld aligned character, meaning she can be used in any tower that requires Outworld characters but is restricted in towers that declare that no Outworld characters can be used.
Skarlet is not one of the most powerful characters, but she is a new fan favorite for the player base. And adding Assassin Skarlet to Mortal Kombat Mobile shows that Netherrealm is trying to do right by their fans.
