Is it possible to play an Okami sequel soon? It seems fans’ wish has seen some light already.
In 2006, developer Clover Studio and publisher Capcom launched the action-adventure game for the PlayStation 2 gamers. It was released initially not only in Japan but also in North America. A year after, it was made available for players in Australia and Europe.
In 2008, Clover Studio closed down. However, the game’s journey did not end with the company’s closure. Thanks to Capcom, Tose, and Ready at Dawn, a Wii port for the title was developed.
The game made a mark in PlayStation 2’s history. It is among the last ones released before the arrival of PlayStation 3.
An Okami sequel actually happened in 2010. However, Okamiden was just for the Nintendo DS. It is, therefore, not a surprise to see fans rallying for Okami 2.
With Ikumi Nakamura’s tweet, many anticipating fans’ optimism has gotten stronger. The original Okami background production in-charge shared a video of him and Hideki Kamiya, the game’s writer, and director. The caption that goes with it got a lot of followers even more excited.
According to Nakamura, the game will be back and that they both want to develop an Okami sequel. He further narrated that they share the same feelings with avid fans.
One of the commenters noted that he “couldn’t be happier” about the game’s release. In the meantime, some likewise requested the availability of Okamiden in the most recent Nintendo portable consoles.
This is not the first time that news (and rumors) about the second installment of Okami have gone around.
In a YouTube video posted in 2018, it was noted that Okami 2 is not far from happening. The possibility is high, especially with the fans’ support. The developer and publisher could have been receiving requests about an Okami sequel consistently.
According to the loyal followers of the title, experiencing the story of goddess Amaterasu will be “amazing.”
Back in 2015, the Japanese folklore was close to getting a new game. The rumored plan for Okami 2 did not materialize. Reports claimed that disagreements with Tatsuya Minani, Platinum’s former president, caused it.
With Capcom announcing about the revival of its dormant IPs, has the company considered the next Okami title? This could be a possible move. However, other gamers do not support this somehow. For them, the game cannot be described as such. Accordingly, it is still an active game, which only needs to be updated by introducing a new title.
