Samsung just channeled its own The Little Prince with the new CRG90 monitor–what is essential is invisible to the eye.
At first glance, there’s no difference in design with the CRG90 and its predecessor, the Samsung CJ89. But then again, the most important thing is what’s inside. And the new CRG90 packs a punch.
The ultrawide monitor features a 32:9 aspect ratio of the curved display. It boasts of a dual QHD with a maximum resolution of 5120 x 1440. The Quantum dot tech, along with the HDR 1000 support, ensures that you always get realistic contrast and hues.
With AMD FreeSync 2, the Samsung CRG90 has a response time of 0.4 milliseconds and a refresh rate of 120Hz. Admittedly, the refresh rate is not the best out there as far as gaming monitors are concerned. The standard gaming monitors of today already features a 144Hz refresh rate.

In fact, Samsung’s own 27-inch CRG5 already boasts of a 240Hz refresh rate with 0.1 milliseconds of response time. The CR65 sells for $400, and it’s actually one of the cheaper options out there for the performance.
The refresh rate for the CRG90 is lower than its predecessor, which had a 144Hz refresh rate. But it’s more than adequate to play Destiny 2, for instance, which runs at a maximum of 60 frames per second. The AMD FreeSync 2 and the HDR really help in this regard.
When you are playing in this monitor, make sure that the game supports ultrawide aspect ratio. That’s the only way to enhance your gaming experience.
One probable reason is that the Samsung CRG90 wasn’t designed specifically for gaming. The 49-inch split-screen-capable panel is designed for multitasking. Behind the screen, you will find a DisplayPort, HDMI, headphone jack, and USB ports.
The built-in speakers are more than adequate for a business presentation or a home theater studio. Much more so if you are playing a game since you get close to the monitor. But then again, there are cheap external speakers if you really want to enhance the audio of the monitor.
However, the CRG90 will really hit you where it hurts. The 49-inch monitor sells for $1,500, which might be too much for a gaming monitor. That’s the reason why Samsung is not marketing it solely for gaming but business or home entertainment, as well.
