The forthcoming lineup of Pokemon Unite has just received a quite unexpected addition. Clefable’s addition to Pokemon Unite was announced over the weekend, and it will take its place on the team on October 13th. The unexpected news was revealed during a weekend-long Harvest Moon event that showcased collaborations between several Pokemon products. We don’t know the type of Clefable or its pre-evolution, Clefairy, in the game, and we don’t have any information about their moves yet.
Clefable is the latest addition to Pokemon Unite, which has had a slew of updates in celebration of its first anniversary. Mew was the first Pokemon to be released by Pokemon Unite this month, and the next two are Scyther/Scizor and Dodrio, all of which are expected to hit stores in early October. Scyther and Scizor are notable since they are the first Pokemon that can be evolved in-game. Each and every other Pokemon must undergo an evolution.
Taking inspiration from multiplayer online battle arenas, Pokemon Unite is a free-to-play game where five players compete against each other in five-on-five team battles. Players take charge of a single Pokemon and raise it through the levels by slaying other Pokemon and challenging enemies. Players also strive to score goals for their other team while collecting Aeos Energy from wild Pokemon.
The game is an entertaining mashup of old Pokemon and MOBA-style strategies, although lacking several features from typical Pokemon games, such as type benefits. Even though it’s free to play, players will need to spend real money to unlock certain Pokemon and utilize them in battles by purchasing Unite Licenses from the game’s in-game market. It is possible to buy a Unite License with either Aeos Coins, which are acquired by playing matches, or with a premium currency, which must be paid with actual money.
