In recent weeks, it’s been heavily rumored that The Last of Us Part II will be released for the PlayStation 4 in February of next year. But, according to a recent leak, the scheduled release date for the highly-anticipated sequel to Naughty Dog’s 2013 survival-horror game will be in the spring of 2020.

Over on 4Chan, an anonymous source who claims to know someone working at Naughty Dog claimed that The Last of Us Part II will come to PlayStation 4 in May of next year. Also according to the source, the game was originally scheduled to be released in December of this year, but the date was pushed back to May due to the developer needing to improve the game’s texture and animation.

The leak also claims than Sony and Naughty Dog will make an announcement regarding the release date for The Last of Us Part II this coming fall, and that the specific release date will be May 22, 2020. As of right now, there aren’t any Sony-related events scheduled for the fall. So, if the company announces an event that’s going to take place in one of the autumn months, then that could be a sign that they’re gearing up towards announcing the release date for The Last of Us Part II.

Naughty Dog originally released the first game back in June of 2013, so it’s possible that Sony could announce a June release date instead of the rumored May 22, 2020 date.

While it was heavily rumored for a few years before the event, The Last of Us Part II was announced and revealed at Sony’s PlayStation Experience event back in December of 2016, and since then, Naughty Dog hasn’t even hinted at when the game might be released.

Of course, Sony decided to skip this year’s E3 event, which probably means that they’re going to hold an event later in the year, where they’ll share more regarding some of their biggest exclusives. As of right now, there isn’t a PlayStation Experience event scheduled, so that event could, as the aforementioned leak suggests, happen this coming fall.

There will reportedly be four different versions of The Last of Us Part II upon release, but there has been no further information provided regarding the bonus content that’ll be tied into each version of the game. Also, it’s unclear if it’ll include multiplayer at launch, or if it’ll just be a single-player experience.
