Gameplay:

It was announced in the summertime that Marvel’s Avengers developer, Crystal Dynamics, had brought on God of War combat designer Vince Napoli for the project. Napoli has been hailed as a genius by the company as he has customized the combat mechanics of each Hero to match their comic book equals.

Marvel fans will be able to play their beloved Heroes, including Thor, Iron Man, Black Widow, and the Hulk.

Avengers will utilize a leveling system, along with a skill/talent tree. The higher the level of the Hero, the more skills they will learn. Players can specialize their skills as there are multiple playstyle builds per character.

There is a vast amount of gear for each character, each with its own exclusive stats and rarity. Players will collect higher level and more unique gear throughout the progression of the game.

An essential part of the gameplay is the perk mechanic. Perks will add modifiers to the current gear a Hero has, allowing new attacks and stat bonuses.

Furthermore, there will be fan-pleasing outfits that players can collect. The outfits are purely aesthetic and will reflect the Heroes within the illustrious history of Marvel.

Lastly, there will be a Hero and Warzone missions as well Co-op play, and the ladder will have more information revealed in early 2020.

Here is the official game overview video from Square Enix.

Plot:

The game starts during Avengers Day in San Francisco, California. The Avengers have just announced a second headquarters along with a helicarrier powered by a Terrigen Crystal. The celebration doesn’t last, though, as a threat reigns catastrophe down upon the city, destroying most of it and leading to the apparent death of Captain America.

The Avengers disband as they are blamed for the tragedy. Fast forward five years and supervillain tech organization A.I.M. controls San Francisco and have outright banned superheroes.

Kamala Khan, Ms. Marvel, steals important information from A.I.M. but ends up in A.I.M.’s crosshairs. Khan sets out to reassemble the heroes to take down A.I.M. and restore the peoples’ faith in the Avengers.

Marvel’s Avengers is published by Square Enix, the company in charge of long-time fantasy role-playing franchise Final Fantasy. Furthermore, Avengers is developed by Crystal Dynamics, a subsidiary of Square Enix, who has developed games like Laura Croft: Tomb Raider and Legacy of Kain.

The game was initially announced earlier this year at E3 2019. Fans knew this announcement was coming at some point as Square Enix and Marvel announced a multi-year, multi-game partnership back in 2017.
