Everyone likes a little metal with their competitive MOBA, right? Riot seems to think so – as do enough fans of the game to push the Riot-based metal band up to the Billboard Top 40 and a number 1 spot on the iTunes metal chart.
It’s been a while since the group’s second album, Grasp of the Undying, hit music platforms in 2017. With three years between now and then, some have begun to lose hope in a resurgence. One Reddit user commented that he would be surprised if the band ever released another piece, prompting one RiotPraeco to ask, “Wai?”
RiotPraeco, also known as Christian Linke, is one of the main directive members behind the band. Linke is also the Creative Director of Riot and has been responsible for an incredible amount of the compositions, from champion and menu themes to Pentakill itself. He also plays guitar in the band, along with mixing and programming the rest of it.
“I mean yeah we are definitely gonna do another album of sorts. Question is when,” Linke confirmed, stating that everyone was excited. When pressed for more information, he went a bit more in-depth.
“So far it’s just a thought. I think we’ll wanna make sure we capture the essence of Pentakill and keep things melodic and accessible, that was always the goal. At the same time, add something new to it. I think on this next one we would likely try to add some new talent to the group. The most important thing is the passion. Metalheads are a certain breed.”
Linke spoke a bit more further on, discussing the way that the band picks metal sub-genres and how they want to keep strong melodies at the core, rebuking the metal trends of just heavily distorting everything. Linke also mentioned that it would be enjoyable to bring some Black Sabbath or Iron Maiden influence into the music.
In the game’s lore, the band is made up of Karthus, Olaf, Mordekaiser, Kayle, and Sona. Once you step out of the game, though, you’ve got some massive names in the metal community. Linke has his own fame, but there are also figures like ZP Theart and Jorn Lande. Theart is known for his work as a vocalist for legendary power metal band Dragonforce, while Lande has been part of groups like Avantasia, Masterplan, Vagabond, Ark, and more.
It’s fantastic to know that the heads at Riot haven’t forgotten about making the extra little additions to the game’s community that makes it touch so many lives.
