The soft reboot of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is currently scheduled to be released this coming October, and it will feature the ability to play as a female character during multiplayer matches.
In the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare subreddit, a user posted a question about whether or not players will be given the option to use a female character while participating in online matches. The question was answered by Ashton Williams, who is the Senior Communications Manager at Infinity Ward, as he confirmed that there will be playable female characters by simply saying “yes.”
Of course, playable female characters have been featured in past Call of Duty games, so this is nothing new for the popular first-person shooter franchise.
Earlier this week, Infinity Ward teased their August 1 multiplayer gameplay reveal by showcasing player introductions for matches. They also confirmed that there will be multiple types of match introductions, so players won’t be forced to watch the same thing over and over again before competing in online matches.
As for the intro that was showcased, well, it was a simple helicopter drop-in that took roughly 15 seconds. Other types of introductions could include operators rappelling down into matches, or freefalling into them. But, as of right now, Infinity Ward hasn’t shown off any additional intros for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s multiplayer mode.
Infinity Ward will likely tell you everything you need to know about the various multiplayer modes in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare during their August 1 gameplay reveal. They’ll probably also reveal a few additional introductions during the live stream.
There hasn’t been any news regarding how long the live stream will last or what they’re planning on showing during it. But, at the very least, they’re going to be showing off a lot more than just the Gunfight mode, which was revealed a few weeks ago.
The developer has done a few behind-closed-doors demonstrations of the single-player campaign, which is reportedly the most realistic and detailed campaign that’s ever been in a Call of Duty game. But, so far, Infinity Ward hasn’t shown any gameplay from CoD’s single-player mode, as their current priority is getting the multiplayer gameplay out there, as that’s what most people are going to buy the game for.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is currently scheduled to be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 25, which is just under three months from now.
