Dog lovers and Ghost of Tsushima fans can rejoice because finally there is going to be some crossover content between everyone’s favorite feudal Japan video game and man’s best friend.
In Ghost of Tsushima, the Mongol army has a number of big fluffy black dogs under their care. You may have wanted to pet one in the past, but when they start attacking, you quickly realized that’s not a great idea.
If you’re anything like me and you winced your way through cutting down these not-so-good boys with your trusty Katana, you’ll be very pleased at an additional feature coming with this week’s Legend Update for Ghost of Tsushima.
You will now be allowed to pet dogs and recruit them to follow you as loyal companions…aka good boys.
The update is officially called Version 1.1, and it will be hitting PlayStation consoles this Friday, October 16. It’s adding a number of long requested features, including a New Game+ mode for the single player campaign, and the addition of Ghost of Tsushima Legends, which is a four player co-op multiplayer experience. That’s why people are calling it the Legend Update. You’ll even be able to recruit a new horse.
But, really, we’re more focused on the dog aspect of the update right now.
“Starting on October 16 with Ghost of Tsushima Version 1.1, you can equip the Charm of Canine Recruitment in New Game+ to pet dogs and turn them into allies.”
You’ll apparently also be able to pet spirit dogs in Ghost of Tsushima Legends.
Of course, you won’t be able to do this on your first playthrough. This is only going to be available when playing on New Game+. That is a mode that is unlocked after you play through the single player campaign. It allows you to restart a new game with all of your levels, weapons, abilities, and cosmetics intact from your previous playthrough.
It sounds as though you will automatically have that charm when starting the new game, meaning it’s time to make some furry friends as you defend your home from Mongol invaders.
There will be a whole bunch of extremely powerful new charms and upgrades for your weapons in the New Game+ mode.
You’ll also be able to collect Ghost Flowers on your second playthrough, which are awarded for completing Tales that you already went through on your first adventure. The Ghost Flowers can be traded to a new merchant for a number of dyes and cosmetics that will give you more personalization over the Ghost’s appearance.
