A new bug is bugging Xbox Black Ops Cold War players following the December 8th update – a message appears when you try to load up the game telling you your “Blackout Trial Has Ended” and you’ll need to purchase the game. Again.
Thankfully, there’s a very simple fix for this Blackout bug that seems to be working for a lot of people, and it just involves heading to your game manager/update manager.
Make sure to go to the “Add On” section and select all the add-ons for Black Ops. You have to select all of them, not just the Black Ops Cold War base game. Then just save your changes and restart Call of Duty. This should fix the problem in no time at all.
This makes sure all the add-ons and updates are applied to the game, and the game should load fine the next time you start it up. However, this is still a temporary fix – Treyarch hasn’t mentioned whether there is an official update coming. You may have to confirm the add-ons more than once.
It’s also not guaranteed to work – some people are still locked out of key game modes by this Blackout bug.
What was the new update for?
The December 8th update was intended to add stability and bug fixes, as well as make space for the first Season of Black Ops Cold War. Weapons, scorestreaks, and in-game balancing have also received some changes.
New free bundles are also available to celebrate the upcoming start of Season 1, and these include an epic Operator Skin, an Epic Reticle, and a calling card (and other cosmetic stuff).
A double XP weekend also starts December 12th (this Saturday) and runs until the start of Black Ops Cold War Season 1 next week (December 16th). Don’t worry, Nuketown isn’t going anywhere, even if it’s being replaced as a featured playlist by the new Mosh mode.
There’s also a significant list of visual changes and more technical changes to gun performance and the game’s UI. These are the sort of updates that keep getting pushed out over the yearly cycle of Call of Duty, and bugs like the “Your Trial Has Ended” usually pop up.
Thankfully, this bug was easy to fix by just heading to your game updates, and it seems like it’s only a problem affecting Xbox players right now. Should be fixed with a future update, but until then, you can handle it on your own!
