Control is a brand new action adventure game that dropped last week. The developers at Remedy Entertainment really crafted an amazing supernatural thriller that follows the main character as she investigates a paranormal antagonist known only as the Hiss in an office building. The game really relies on an element of mystery to create the perfect atmosphere, so there are a lot of chances to miss things. Here are some of the most important things to take note of.
Jesse Faden, the game’s main character, is an agent of the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC), a fictional government agency that is tasked with investigating entities and phenomena that defy the laws of physics as we understand them. Faden winds up inside the FBC’s office building in New York City, called the “Oldest House,” and has to fight against the Hiss, which has corrupted Faden’s reality.
In order to do that, players will need to rely on a lot of different in-game dynamics. So make sure you are paying attention.
First off, do not try to use collected materials from fallen enemies to craft weapon mods. Those materials can be used to create better versions of Faden’s service weapon, which will then be able to hold more mods and do more damage. This is exponentially more useful than wasting those materials on mods you can find just in the course of the game.
Remedy Entertainment has included in-game challenges called “Bureau Alerts” that grant the player resources upon completion. But remember that Bureau Alerts will disappear every time you die. So be sure to use the Bureau Alerts as they appear, otherwise, they will end up going away if you die in the middle of the game’s regular progression.
Throughout the game, the player will find numerous control rooms inside the FBC building. Although Control sports a minimalist heads-up display, which is a welcome break from most modern games, when you are inside the white control rooms, it can be a real hassle: The HUD is also white. So make sure you keep an eye out for hidden buttons inside the control rooms.
Finally, if you are just starting out and find the game way too difficult to progress, focus on raising Faden’s health before doing anything else. Faden starts the game with little health, which can make fighting against the Hiss a real challenge. But a higher health bar will help alleviate most (if not all) of that initial difficulty.
Control was released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC last week on Tuesday, 27 August. Be sure to give it a try if you enjoy paranormal fiction.
