The latest Tom Clancy title kicked off with a bad start on Friday after its servers went down. Because the game requires an online connection, Players of Ghost Recon Breakpoint were met with screens with the word “SILENT” spelled out in bold letters.

Unfortunately for Ubisoft, the developers behind the game, the server shutout had to happen on the very same day of the official launch of Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Whether the gamers were on Windows PC, Xbox One, or PlayStation 4, they all remained unable to access the game, including both single-player missions and online multiplayer. Breakpoint requires a connection with Ubisoft’s servers to play the game at all. Ubisoft managed to get the servers back up and running after only two and a half hours.

As usual, fans took to the internet to vent their frustration. Gamers left almost two thousand replies on a tweet posted by Ubisoft Support acknowledging the problem. Meanwhile, on the Ghost Recon subreddit, another thread regarding the server outage winded up with over 90 pages worth of comments. These ranged from complaints to compliments and understanding from fans of the series.

Despite occasional negativity, the Ghost Recon community has been mostly supportive of the development team at Ubisoft. This may come as a surprise considering recent fan outbursts regarding games Ooblets and Fallout 76. But it wasn’t all positive. There are always exceptions: Some comments were incredibly harsh and honed in on the frustration.

“This here is why you need offline though,” one user wrote. “No game apart from PVP games should require online.” Another claimed that, while Ubisoft was aware of the problems with its servers, they remained “clearly unaware of how many of us want offline mode.”

The server difficulties was not the first instance of trouble for Ubisoft and its launch of the Ghost Recon title. Before opening their final open beta period for the game, the developers had a similar spate of technical difficulties. These difficulties also delayed the launch of Breakpoint’s open beta for several hours.

In another instance, this time related to the released game itself, Ubisoft Paris reported difficulties with portions of its microtransaction system. Some of the products were displaying error messages in the online store.

Currently, the game and its servers are back up and running. Hopefully, Ubisoft will be able to get a handle on some of the other problems as well. Ghost Recon Breakpoint is out now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
