Today, Bethesda Softworks and id Software released some bad news; the delay of the much-awaited first-person shooter game Doom Eternal which was to come next month.
In tweet on the Doom official page, the developer revealed that the release date for Doom Eternal had been pushed to March 20, 2020.
“To make sure we’re delivering the best experience – for DOOM Eternal to live up to our standards of speed and polish – we’ve made the decision to extend our launch date by a few months to March 20, 2020, said the developer. “We know many fans will be disappointed by this delay, but we are confident that DOOM Eternal will deliver a gaming experience that is worth the wait.”
Doom Eternal, the fifth main title in the Doom series, was initially slated for release on November 22. The game is sequel to Doom, and just like the 2016 blockbuster, it will be available on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC (Microsoft Windows). Please note the Nintendo version will be dropping at a later date.
The publisher and developer’s explanation is not something out of this world. The team believes in taking time to make sure the game doesn’t launch with a myriad of bugs like Borderlands 3 and several other AAA titles.
To make up for the postponement of Doom Eternal, on such short notice, the game will tag along with some goodies once it lands in March next year. There’s also a new game mode confirmed though it won’t be available at launch.
The developer confirmed that all Doom Eternal preorders would come with Doom 64 for free. This is a Nintendo 64 first-person shooter game released in 1997. Old school gaming fans can relive the Midway Games first-person shooter game at no extra cost.
Bethesda and id Software have also shed some light regarding Invasion Mode. If you want to trash through another player’s campaign, assume the character of a monstrous demon in this online mode. But again, players will have to be a little patient as Invasion Mode will drop in an update shortly after Doom Eternal’s launch.
For now, fans of the Doom series have to sit back and wait. But at least the publisher has not been mean with teases.
The first gameplay footage of Doom Eternal came last year at Quakecon 2018. During E3 2019, a Doom Eternal gameplay trailer was and also released, and it manifested the power of id Tech 7 – excellent graphics and smooth gameplay.
