CD Projekt Red is bringing Cyberpunk 2077 to the Taipei Game Show next month, where they’re going to show previously undisclosed content from their upcoming first-person open-world game. Unfortunately, though, the new content won’t be released to the public, as it’ll only be shown to select audiences. Of course, it’ll probably be released to the public before the game is released in the fall.
As of this writing, we don’t know what CD Projekt Red will show when they bring their upcoming title to the Taipei Game Show, nor do we know how long their presentation will be. We’ll know more soon, as the event is scheduled to happen on February 6.
After the developers shared the unfortunate news that Cyberpunk 2077’s release date had been pushed back from the spring to the fall, a Polish video game insider claimed that the reason for the delay was because the game doesn’t run well on consoles. However, CD Projekt Red posted a statement claiming that there’s no truth to what the aforementioned insider said regarding the game’s delay.
Additionally, Cory Barlog, who is God of War’s director, responded to the rumor, saying that all games run poorly until the developers are ready to make the final push for gold status.
“Cory Barlog hit the nail on the head,” said CD Projekt Red’s senior quest designer in response to Barlog’s tweet. “Of course we’re optimizing for the Xbox One, and for the PlayStation, and for the PC, because that’s what you do in the last stretches of game development. While the game is made, lots of things are unoptimized, because they’re all in flux, changing, and still not finished. So simple answers like, ‘They delayed the game because of X’ might make for a good rumor, but don’t hold a lot of truth.”
The good news is that CD Projekt Red claims that they’re confident in their new September release date, so the game likely won’t be delayed again. Also, as of right now, the developers said that they’re not making a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X port for the game, as their primary focus is the current generation.
Also, following the news of Cyberpunk 2077’s delay, CD Projekt Red said that its multiplayer expansion won’t be ready to be released until 2022.
Cyberpunk 2077 is currently scheduled to be released on all platforms — PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC — in a little under eight months from now, as the game’s new release date is September 17.
