During Sony’s State of Play stream on Tuesday, it was revealed that the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game, which will be released on October 25, will have a mode that’s exclusive to the PlayStation 4 for the first year, as it was revealed that PS4 owners will be able to get access to the Special Ops Survival mode one year before players on other platforms.
As you’d probably expect, the news that Special Ops Survival will be a timed PS4 exclusive was met with a ton of criticism, and thus, Taylor Kurosaki, who is the narrative director for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, felt the need to respond, saying that the decision was made by those who were above his pay grade.
“We do our best every day to give our players the best experience possible,” Kurosaki said on Twitter. “There are decisions that are above all of our pay grades that have to be considered.”
He also explained that the Special Ops Survival mode makes up for about 1% of the content in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, adding that he hopes that Sony getting timed exclusivity for Spec Ops doesn’t ruin the experience for players on PC and Xbox One.
“I’d rather have everyone playing 99% of the content at the same time than 100% of the content some time later,” added COD: MW’s narrative director.
As for when Infinity Ward will reveal more about the Special Ops mode, including the Survival mode for PlayStation 4 owners, they’ve already revealed that they’ll do so at the beginning of next month, as it’s going to be the final big reveal before the game is released on October 25.
Also during the State of Play stream, Infinity Ward revealed the latest story trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which you can check out below. It doesn’t feature any new gameplay, as it’s all pre-rendered cut scenes. Moreover, the cut scenes look incredible.
Infinity Ward has also confirmed that, in addition to the 100-player Ground War mode, there will be other, select modes that will also have the capability to host 100-player games.
As previously mentioned, the soft reboot of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will hit Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on October 25, and Activision has already said that it’s going to get more post-launch support than any other game in franchise history. So, it’s shaping up to be the most significant COD release in quite some time.
