As of this writing, neither Activision or Infinity Ward have confirmed the existence of Call of Duty: Warzone, which is reportedly the title of the upcoming Battle Royale expansion for Modern Warfare, but all signs seem to indicate that it’ll be released early next month.
Earlier this month, Video Games Chronicle reported that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Battle Royale, to the best of their knowledge, will be released on Tuesday, March 10. Of course, it was previously rumored that the BR expansion would be released in mid-February, but that didn’t end up being the case.
This week, some Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players noticed something interesting on the Bazaar map, which shows a picture of a blank map that displays a March 3 date underneath it. Naturally, this led most of the game’s player-base to assume that the date, which is a Tuesday — typically the day that new games are released — is Warzone’s release date.
Moreover, some have speculated that the listed March 3 date will be when Infinity Ward officially announces Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Battle Royale, and that the announcement will be followed with a March 10 release date reveal.
Like with any other industry, rumors related to gaming are often hit or miss, with the latter usually being the case. However, in the case of Modern Warfare’s Battle Royale leaks and rumors, it seems like it’s a good example of the former, as Activision is taking action against users who leak information regarding the rumored Warzone mode and release date.
Earlier this week, Euro Gamer reported that Activision has issued a subpoena to Reddit, in which they demanded to know the identity of the users who are leaking information regarding the long-rumored Battle Royale mode. They’ve also hit reliable Call of Duty leaker The Gaming Revolution with several copyright strikes over on his YouTube channel, as he’s regularly sharing information about COD: Warzone.
If there’s nothing to any of the leaks, then it’s likely that Activision wouldn’t take any kind of action against the people who are sharing inside information. So, in this case, it seems like where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Of course, the publishers and developers could get out ahead of these leaks by revealing the mode, which has been rumored since before the game released last October. But, at least as of right now, they’ve opted against that.
March 3 is this coming Tuesday, so we’ll see whether or not Call of Duty: Warzone will finally be announced by Infinity Ward.
