Bandai Namco has finally released a trailer for their recently-announced action-RPG Blue Protocol, and so far, the game looks stunning.
Not much is known about the project, except that it is being described as an online JRPG. The game will feature a character creation system, allowing players to choose between several different classes, each with their own strengths, abilities, and play style. According to the game’s official website, players will band together to fight huge creatures and “hordes of monsters,” ultimately working toward taking down a “planetary beast.”
Blue Protocol is set on the planet Regnus, a world that was once inhabited by divine beings known as the “Bapharian Divines.” These god-like beings created a thriving civilization, built around the Engram, a mysterious light that allowed the Bapharians to harness the power of time.
Thousands of years have passed since the Bapharians ruled, and the gods have now left the planet to humans. Now, people are still searching for the remaining light of the Engram, exploring the ancient ruins of the cities built by the gods.
The trailer is certainly impressive, with some excellent visuals and fast-paced combat. Character models appear to be ripped straight out of an anime, with a very smooth cel-shaded look, and the trailer shows off some of the different classes that players will be able to choose from.
The world and its inhabitants are bright, colorful, and rendered with great detail. Much of the trailer revolves around taking down giant beasts with multiple players, giving off some Monster Hunter vibes.
Bandai Namco has also announced that a closed alpha test will go live in just a few weeks, taking place from July 26 to July 28. Unfortunately, the test is only for those who live in Japan, and it is restricted to only 5,000 players. The alpha will give players to a chance to experience four of the game’s unique classes; the Spell Caster, Aegis Fighter, Twin Striker, and the Blast Archer.
It’s unknown if the game will receive an alpha here in the west, but considering Bandai Namco’s track record, we’re sure to see some details about a western release down the road.
While the game is launching on PC, no other details about its release was given. Hopefully, with the upcoming alpha test, we’ll receive some more information soon, such as a release window, additional platforms, and more. For more updates, as well as some newly released screenshots and story details, be sure to check out the game’s official website.
