Cyberpunk 2077 has been through the developmental ringer, from experiencing multiple delays to a buggy launch that has hurt CD Projekt Red‘s standing in the gaming community. It’s safe to say the developer had plans for something completely different as far as this game’s reception and current standing.

Anytime a game of this caliber receives as much hype as it did for years, high expectations are set upon it and rightfully so. The gaming community wants the best and although no game is truly perfect at launch, gamers expect developers to live up to certain promises.

CD Projekt Red is receiving a pretty heavy blowback for releasing Cyberpunk 2077 before it was truly ready, but they’re still keen on righting their wrongs. They in fact have plans of releasing free DLC sometime early in 2021. Will this be enough to build back the foundation they’ve worked so hard on over the couple of years? That remains to be seen.

2020 was a terrible year for a lot of people so maybe this new year is a way for CD Projekt to turn the page and continue to deliver what they originally planned to, before bugs and deadline challenges got in the way.

This news comes from the game’s official website, although there are currently no reports about what this DLC will entail or exactly when it will be available. It seems like CD Projekt Red wants to keep these details pretty close to their chest as they figure out a way to get fans back on their side. They’re walking on eggshells now so every move has to be calculated.

They have done a lot of amazing work in the past, particularly The Witcher 3. Even still in 2021, it’s one of the best open-ended RPGs you could experience. From the main missions to the plethora of side content, The Witcher 3 delivers on all fronts. The same can’t be said for Cyberpunk 2077, at least not yet.

If CD Projekt Red can deliver meaningful free content and keep these updates consistent, maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel for them after all. At the very least, gamers that have decided to stick around with this buggy RPG will have new content to check out and possibly new storylines to get wrapped up in.

As we get further into the new year, hopefully the developer decides to reveal more about what this upcoming free DLC will encompass.
