CD Projekt Red has announced Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is now available on the iOS App Store. The release comes as a surprise, similar to the sudden Nintendo Switch launch earlier this year.

Thronebreaker is a single-player RPG that combines the gameplay of GWENT along with a brand new story set in The Witcher universe. Players take on the role of Queen Meve of Lyria and Rivia. She was only mentioned a few times in the CD Projekt Red games and more predominately in the novel series written by Andrzej Sapkowski.

Meve faces a series of betrayals that force her on a journey to amass an army, recruit loyal followers, and protect her home from an impending Nilfgaardian invasion. While the game contains characters who have not appeared in the game before, some will recognize characters from previous games or some who appeared in the recent Netflix series. The series’ protagonist, Geralt of Rivia, also makes an appearance along with several references and jokes from previous games.

Thronebreaker is a premium game and will cost players $9.99 and contain no ads. The title is around 4GB and supports PC syncing. Players who own the game on both PC and iOS can continue their gameplay at home or on the go.

By playing Thronebreaker on iOS, players can unlock additional bonuses for GWENT: The Witcher Card Game, which is now available for PC, iOS, and Android. Purchasing the game on mobile will unlock an additional 20 cards and ornaments in the main GWENT game.

Thronebreaker comes with a set of digital rewards that were previously released, as well. They include the official Thronebreaker soundtrack, a digital version of GWENT: Art of The Witcher Card Game artbook and The Witcher graphic novel Fox Children from Dark Horse, concept art, plus a map of Lyria.

Players will need to create a GOG.com account and sync it with their Thronebreaker game. For the Dark Horse content, players will have to make an additional Dark Horse Comics account. Both accounts are free to create. There’s no expiry date, and players can download the free content at any time.

While the game was previously released on the Nintendo Switch, the game comes with additional touch-screen controls for iOS. Players can play the game without an additional controller.
