For some time, it’s been common knowledge that Cyberpunk 2077 will ship as a single-player experience, with the game’s multiplayer component supposedly coming sometime after the core game’s release. However, just like the core game, its multiplayer expansion has also been delayed.

During a recent investor’s call, CD Projekt Red confirmed that, in addition to Cyberpunk 2077 being pushed back until November, the game’s multiplayer component will also be pushed back, although they didn’t give any additional information. Of course, those who have been following the game’s development already know that its multiplayer expansion isn’t going to be added until sometime after next year, and now it appears that we’re going to have to wait even longer for it to arrive.

“Given the expected release of Cyberpunk 2077 in September, and speaking of a series of events we expect to occur after that date, 2021 appears unlikely as a release date for the Cyberpunk multiplayer,” said Michał Nowakowski, CD Projekt Red’s SVP of business earlier this year.

The main game has been delayed several times, with the recent one being the most surprising. After breaking news about Cyberpunk 2077’s delay, CD Projekt Red confirmed that everything in the game is complete while giving the following reason for its delay.

“But with such an abundance of content and complex systems interweaving with each other, we need to properly go through everything, balance game mechanics, and fix a lot of bugs. ‘Ready when it’s done’ is not just a phrase we say because it sounds right, it’s something we live by even when we know we’ll take the heat for it.”

Cyberpunk 2077 being pushed back to November might convince potential players to not purchase the current-gen version of the game, as it’ll presumably be released right before Sony and Microsoft launch their respective next-gen consoles. CD Projekt Red has said that Xbox One users will get a free, next-gen upgrade if they purchase the current-gen version of the game, however, there’s been no news regarding whether or not that’ll be the case for PlayStation users.

While it’s always disappointing to hear that a game is getting delayed, usually, it’s for the better. Also, it’s unlikely that the delays will hurt the game’s overall success, although it might slow down sales of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions.

For now, Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled to launch in November, with the game’s multiplayer component supposedly being added sometime in 2022, if it doesn’t end up getting scrapped between now and then.
