The Last of Us Part II is currently scheduled to be released for the PlayStation 4 on June 19, and in the weeks leading up to the release of Naughty Dog’s highly-anticipated sequel, the developers will take a closer look at the game in a series of videos, the first of which dropped on Wednesday.

In the first episode, which can be seen below, the game’s director Neil Druckmann, narrative lead Halley Gross, and co-directors Anthony Newman, and Kurt Margenau explained why they needed to create a sequel to their 2013 survival/horror blockbuster.

In the video, Druckmann explains how Joel has changed, saying that he’s no longer a smuggler, and instead, he’s a key part of the Jackson town, which is where he and Ellie have settled.

Also in the video, The Last of Us Part II’s director said that he and others within Naughty Dog had a lot of philosophical arguments about how some of the game’s events unfold, which is why he thinks the sequel will be more divisive than the first game.

“I know even in the studio we’ve had a lot of philosophical arguments about some of the events and what happens in the game,” said Druckmann. “I think this one might be more divisive than the first game, in a very kind of exciting way that I think raises those philosophical questions and asks the players to interpret some of the material that’s there and see where they stand on those questions.”

Of course, none of the leaks were acknowledged in the aforementioned video, nor will they be talked about in subsequent videos.

Over the next three weeks, Naughty Dog will be doing in-depth videos, with each week focusing on something new.

The Last of Us Part II will be the largest PlayStation exclusive ever upon its release, as it’ll be somewhere in the neighborhood of 100GB. Also, like with Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption II, physical copies of The Last of Us Part II will ship with two discs, one for installation, and one that will play the game.

As of right now, The Last of Us Part II will launch with no multiplayer mode, although the developers have said that multiplayer will come to the game at some point.
