Before season one of Netflix’s The Witcher aired, the streaming service announced that the show will get a second season, as they were confident that the show, which is based on the Andrzej Sapkowski novel series, would be a hit. Well, they were proven right, because the show, in just ten days became the service’s second-most-watched show of 2019.
Unfortunately, it looks like the show’s second season won’t be released until next year, and it’ll likely begin filming sometime in the spring of this year. Earlier this month, The Witcher’s showrunner Lauren Hissrich said that the timeline for the second season will be more linear than season one’s, and during a recent interview with Business Insider, she teased what we’ll see during the show’s second season.
“You’ll learn a lot more about Geralt,” said The Witcher’s showrunner during her chat with Business Insider. “You’ll get to know where he came from and why he is the person he is in season one.”
Hissrich also talked about Ciri, who, in season two will “not looking backward anymore or looking back at her family in Cintra anymore. She’s trying to build a new family.” Of course, season one concluded with her finally meeting Geralt of Rivia, so most of her time in season two will likely be spent with the White Wolf.

After season one was released, fans of the series who were familiar with both the books and video games started suggesting that Mark Hamill should play Vesemir in season two. Of course, the legendary Witcher wasn’t shown during the first season, although we did hear his voice during one of Geralt’s flashback scenes.
Hissrich recently commented on possibly adding Mark Hamill to the show’s cast by saying the following.
“Mark has always been of interest to me and interest to the project. We have not contacted his agent yet because we’re not casting the role quite yet, but that being said, I am loving what’s happening on the internet.”
One of the chief complaints about The Witcher’s Netflix adaptation was that it only had eight episodes, as most thought that it deserved somewhere between 10 and 12. So, hopefully, the show’s second season will have a few more episodes.
We’ll probably hear more about The Witcher’s second season in the coming months as they begin casting new characters, and Mark Hamill will likely be added to the cast given that the show’s fanbase seems to be pushing hard for it.
