Call of Duty League has yet to begin its inaugural season, but it has been a source of great excitement and criticism nonetheless. One of the biggest criticisms that have come from players and fans is the match format. League players are scheduled to fly across the country, and sometimes to another continent, to play one match.

However, Call of Duty League has heard the feedback from those concerned and has promptly amended its format.

In a tweet on Christmas eve, the league announced a “holiday gift” to the Call of Duty community:

They have promised more matches, more drama, and more reasons to get excited about Call of Duty League’s first season.

To deliver this, they will be introducing a tournament-structured format, along with a new points system.

If gamers click the link in the embedded tweet, they will be brought to a blog post by Call of Duty League.

It reveals that the points system will go live on the 2nd week of league action when teams travel to London to face-off, but the tournament system will be a part of the league from the very start.

Long-time Call of Duty esports fans will appreciate this move by the league. Historically, a lot of the professional esports play featured a tournament structure. Since Call of Duty League has virtually monopolized professional gaming in Call of Duty, this is a welcomed change.

This will also help alleviate the issue of fewer matches during home series events.

At the end of the post, Call of Duty League gives a shout out to the community. It reminds everyone that they are always listening to community feedback and want to optimize this new city-based league to accurately represent Call of Duty esports.

“Our competitive format is one of the many highlights we are thrilled to introduce in 2020, including improved watchability, pop- culture infusions, and fan-first experiences at the pro and amateur levels.”

The post reveals all the details that have been released about the new Call of Duty League format, but one can expect more information to be released before the first week of play. The added matches, actual tournament format, and the logistics of the point system have been not revealed yet.
