It has been quite a long time since we’ve been treated to a single-player Mechwarrior game. The last one was Mechwarrior 3, which debuted all the way back in 1999. It’s now 2019 and finally, we’re getting another installment in this iconic franchise. Mechwarrior 5 is almost upon us. It officially launches tomorrow (December 10). So many have waited for this moment.
To celebrate its release, the developers Piranha Games just put out a new trailer. It sets quite the epic battle scene. There are a bevvy of different mech suits featured. All are massive in size. That’s one thing the developers have looked to dial in perfectly. These mech suits are titans and they deserve the appropriate scale to really showcase this.
Looking at the mech suits, there is a ton of variety players will get to select from. Some are slower but built like a tank while others are more agile with limited defenses. You’ll have plenty of time to figure out which mech best suits your combat style.
Another standout feature of this latest trailer is the trial and error players will experience. It reiterates the theme of falling and getting back up. That makes a lot of sense. When you first pick up the controls in Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries, you probably won’t have the best suit equipped with great gear.
However, after every successful battle, you’ll have the chance to build up the perfect futuristic warrior. That seems to be what will drive players forward; there is the constant need to upgrade and become a better solder out on the battlefield.
What also stands out in this latest trailer is the ship you’ll be using as your base. As your character walks up to your mech suits, it’s amazing to see the size comparison. These suits truly do tower over almost everything they come across. The ship will be the perfect place to gather after battles and make the necessary adjustments to your rigs. We haven’t quite seen this type of extensive customization system in a Mechwarrior game before, so right away, this latest installment stands out. It could even be the best Mechwarrior installment to date.
Even if you’re not familiar with this storied franchise, Mechwarrior 5 has a lot going for it. You have the ability to tear down buildings like they’re nothing. The destructible environments just add to the immersion you’ll experience as you get locked into battle with another skilled mech suit.
