Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Asia held the PlayStation Awards 2019 on Tuesday, December 3, in Japan. The award ceremony covers titles released on the PlayStation in the Asia region, including Japan.

The award ceremony also celebrated PlayStation’s 25th anniversary. The live stream aired on PlayStation Japan’s YouTube channel and lasted almost three hours.

The PlayStation 25th Anniversary Users Choice Award winners were announced. This was a special award that was voted on by gamers. The top seven winners were: The Last of Us Remastered, Persona 5, NieR: Automata, Dragon Quest XI, Monster Hunter: World, God of War, and Marvel’s Spider-Man.

The Platinum Prize went to games that exceeded 1 million sales in Asia from October 1, 2018, to September 30, 2019. The five winners were: NieR: Automata, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Kingdom Hearts III.

Several games took home multiple awards for different categories, showing how gamers love these titles even if they were released years ago.

The Gold Prize was awarded to games that sold 500,000 throughout the Asia Region. Many more games were awarded this prize, including Winning Eleven 2019, FIFA 19, FIFA 20, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry 5, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Monster Hunter World: Iceborn Master Edition.

The PlayStation Network Award was given to high digital sales and included Fortnite, Monster Hunter World: Iceborn, and FIFA 19.

PlayStation didn’t leave out their VR accessory. There were three winners: Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, and Beat Saber.

Indie Games and Game Developers also won big at the award ceremony. The five winners included Unravel Two, Hollow Knight, Overcooked! 2, Human Fall Flat, and Hardcore Mecha.

The last award was the PlayStation® 25th Anniversary Special Award. These awards were given to any game released on a PlayStation console in the past 25 years. The winners were: Ridge Racer, Battle Arena Toshinden, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, Dynasty Warriors 3, Yakuza, and Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite.

Many of the award winners may appear familiar. Persona 5, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Fortnite, and The Last of Us Remastered previously won awards during the 2018 ceremony. Although these games were released years ago, they continue to be popular with gamers. We’ll likely see many of them again for the PlayStation Awards in 2020.
