During a panel at New York Comic-Con 2019 in early October, Capcom announced that Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield would be the next characters joining the Monster Hunter World. That day has finally arrived, as Capcom announced in a press release that the collaboration is launching today.

Capcom released a trailer teasing the collaboration. For those who don’t know, Capcom published both Monster Hunter World and Resident Evil 2, so a collaboration isn’t surprising to most.

In the short video, Leon and Claire enter the new world but stumble upon a building that is eerily reminiscent of the Racoon City Police Department. Before they realize what’s happening, undead characters attack them.

Depending on the gender of the player’s character, they’ll have the armor set for either Leon or Claire. There are new Resident Evil themed cosmetics for weapons, such as a unique Tofu keychain that hangs from the longsword.

If players don’t want to become Leon or Claire, they can transform their Hunters into the undead, right down to their slow walk.

Mr. X, the scary Tyrant that chases the heroes around R.P.D. wasn’t left out of the fun. Iceborne players can edit the Handler’s costume into the frightening Mr. X, right down to his signature fedora.

The winners of the weapon and Palico design contests were also announced at NYCC. These designs will be included in the Iceborne update this month.

The winner of the weapon design contest was Sheep, who created the “Black Eagle” Charge Blade. Zyralynn won the Palico design contest for their “Wiggler Set α+.”

Both winning designs have a dedicated trailer on the official Monster Hunter World YouTube channel.

The Resident Evil 2 collaboration isn’t the first to come to MHW. Geralt of Rivia from CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher series, specifically the third installment, The Wild Hunt, joined in early 2019.

Not only did Geralt receive the questline “Trouble in the Ancient Forest,” but there were exclusive rewards for completing multiplayer events. Players could collect all the resources to craft Ciri’s armor and weapon set.

The Monster Hunter World: Iceborne expansion is out now but only for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players. Unfortunately, PC players will have to wait until January 2020 to enjoy the new expansion pack.
