New screenshots and information are slowly being released as the launch date approaches.

At a recent MCM London Comic Con panel, showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich gave some insight into her history with the novel series and how the Netflix series may differ.

Fans of CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher know the series focuses on Geralt of Rivia as he slays monsters, but is also seeking Ciri and Yennefer. While he does his best to avoid politics, he finds himself involved every time. Ciri and Yennefer are both significant characters in the overall series but not seen until the third, and final, installment of the main The Witcher game series.

At the panel, Hissrich was on stage with Ciri’s actress Freya Allen. According to those who were at the panel, Ciri and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) would make an appearance much earlier. Viewers will get to know Ciri before she meets Geralt (Henry Cavill), and any of the other main characters in the series.

Hissrich wanted viewers to get to know the characters individually before they’re together.

Viewers will get to know more about Ciri’s childhood. Yennefer’s story will also be expanded beyond her first appearance in The Last Wish. Fans of her character will get to know more about her adventures before getting involved with Geralt.

Hissrich has made it clear throughout the show’s development that CD Projekt Red’s game series will not be involved. Those expecting the characters to look exactly like the game’s models will be disappointed, as the team tried to keep the characters similar to Sapkowski’s descriptions instead.

While the game series didn’t involve creator Andrzej Sapkowski, he had a role in the development in the upcoming adaptation of his novel series. According to Hissrich, The Witcher series’ creator was so happy at the live-action adaptation that he cried tears of happiness on-set.

During the panel, and later online, some were concerned about how much screentime “The Witcher” Geralt would have on-screen. She promised that he would get his fair share of screen time.

Those who only know The Witcher from CD Projekt Red’s award-winning series will now get to know the characters as Sapkowski intended.
